VIDEO: Tlaib Travels to Minnesota to Support Community Under Attack by ICE

DETROIT — Today, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-12), member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, attended a field hearing in Minneapolis–Saint Paul titled Kidnapped and Disappeared: Trump’s Deadly Assault on Minnesota, alongside28 other Members of Congress. This event is the sixth in a series of shadow hearings highlighting our neighbors who are being killed and ripped away from their families by ICE and the larger threat of Trump’s dangerous immigration policies.
This field hearing comes days after an ICE agent shot Renee Nicole Good in the head in Minneapolis this month. At the hearing, the members demanded accountability for her murder, exposed ICE’s unlawful and violent actions in Minneapolis and across the country, and interviewed witnesses who spoke to personal trauma and constitutional violations. Last year was ICE’s deadliest year in two decades and at least 32 people died in custody. As of January 15, five migrants had died while in ICE custody in 2026.
“Today’s shadow hearing is about exposing and documenting this rogue agency’s violence and lawlessness,” said Congresswoman Tlaib. “What ICE and CBP are doing to our neighbors in Minneapolis and elsewhere across our country is horrific. They are targeting everyone in their path, not just our immigrant neighbors. They are shooting and killing people in cold blood. ICE needs to get out of our neighborhoods now. This is an agency that cannot be reformed, it must be abolished.”
Congresswoman Tlaib is a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the main investigative body in Congress with jurisdiction over a wide range of federal agencies. All Members of Congress have a constitutional duty and legal right to conduct oversight over ICE and Department of Homeland Security facilities.
