Tlaib Statement on the Rise of Hate & Dangerous Rhetoric
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-13) released the following statement regarding the horrific ethnic intimidation at Temple Beth El in Metro Detroit:
“It’s painful to witness the rising hate speech and hate crimes against our Jewish neighbors, emboldened by dangerous rhetoric locally and nationally. Nobody should experience hate for who they are, especially at a sacred place of worship. We must fight against the antisemitic targeting of the Jewish community at Temple Beth El and everywhere hate rears its ugly head.
“Our fight for collective liberation is in solidarity with all marginalized communities. This incident reminds us that defeating antisemitism is integral to our fight against anti-Black racism, white nationalism, and all forms of hate. This bigotry threatens the well-being of all of our communities. We cannot allow people to divide us with hate and violence because of where we’re from, how we pray, or who we love. I’m sending strength and peace to the congregation of Temple Beth El as they heal from this painful and traumatic event. I will continue to work alongside our faith and community leaders to fight against hate and racism.”
