WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) released the following statement after voting NO on the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026:

“I voted against sending another $892.6 billion to Trump’s ‘Department of War.’ Republicans just voted to rip life-saving health care and food assistance away from millions of our families in need, and send an additional $150 billion to fund the Pentagon war machine. Congress is choosing to spend over one trillion dollars on weapons and destruction. Americans want peace, but our government is obsessed with war.

“Year after year, Congress votes to invest in bombs and death instead of health care, housing, clean air and water, or ending child poverty here at home. It is impossible to justify when our neighbors are struggling to put food on the table, fighting to keep a roof over their heads, and rationing their medication. All while Trump militarizes American cities, deploying troops in our streets and brutally attacking our neighbors.

“Meanwhile, the Pentagon has never passed an audit, leaving trillions of dollars unaccounted for. What’s even more disturbing is that Members of Congress benefit financially every single time they vote for more funding for war because they own personal stock in defense contractors. If they truly wanted to root out waste and corruption, they would have started with the Pentagon. It’s time our government finally invests in life and stops funding death.”
