Tlaib Announces Appropriations Requests for Fiscal Year 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) announced her priorities in the federal appropriations process for Fiscal Year 2025. One of the key ways to bring investments home to our district is through appropriations requests. Congresswoman Tlaib led several letters prioritizing the need for lead abatement, access to clean water, housing and health care for veterans, childcare, and food safety.
Congresswoman Tlaib’s FY25 priorities include:
- $1.5 billion for Lead Service Line Replacement – 30 Representatives signed our letter to direct another $1.5 billion to states for lead pipe identification, removal, and replacement to keep us on track to replace all lead service lines in the next decade.
- $500 million for Low Income Household Water Assistance Program – 50 Representatives signed our letter supporting the Health and Human Services LIHWAP program’s efforts to keep residents connected to water service by helping pay off debts, bills, and other water expenses. Funding for the program has expired, and new funding is urgently needed.
- $600 million for State Veterans Homes – 80 Representatives signed our letter supporting long-term and supportive care homes that provide safe, comfortable housing for our veterans in need.
- $20 million for District Office Childcare Benefits – While congressional staffers in Washington, D.C. have access to childcare benefits, district office employees do not. Congresswoman Tlaib led a letter to correct this injustice and give the district office workers who serve our residents the support they need to take care of their families.
- Directing FDA to study PFAS in pet food packaging – PFAS, toxic forever chemicals that can cause cancer, are in so many household products, including the packaging our pets’ food comes in. Directing the Food and Drug Administration to conduct a study is the first step towards banning these harmful chemicals and keeping our families safe.
“In our latest appropriations submissions, I’m prioritizing critical needs for our community, including water infrastructure, lead remediation, housing and health care for veterans, childcare, and safe pet food packaging. These issues directly impact the well-being of families in Michigan’s 12 District,” said Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib. “By advocating for these critical priorities, we’re ensuring that everyone in our community has access to the resources they need to thrive. Together, we can make sure that our budgets reflect our values and prioritize the health and safety of our residents.”
In addition to these requests, Congresswoman Tlaib also prioritized submissions seeking to direct more EPA grant funding to low-income communities, $442 million for household weatherization grants, supporting the expansion of the Child Tax Credit, funding an Army Corps of Engineers flood risk mitigation study in our community, and supporting $170 million for an EPA low-income water assistance program. In total, Congresswoman Tlaib submitted more than 350 requests supporting a wide variety of programs and initiatives to uplift the residents and families of Michigan’s 12th District and reflect their priorities and concerns.
