Rep. Tlaib Statement on Gov. Whitmer ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe’ Emergency Declaration
DETROIT – Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-13) released the following statement regarding Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe’ Emergency Declaration to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in the state:
“In just a short time period, the state of Michigan has gone from having zero people with COVID-19 to now more than 1,200, including 15 people who have unfortunately lost their lives to this disease. This bold action by Governor Whitmer is the right precaution to take to keep residents safe and help prevent the spread of COVID-19. We all need to ensure we are doing everything we personally can to help control this pandemic.
“Governor Whitmer is also right about the state needing more resources from the federal government. The Trump Administration must ramp up efforts to get personal protection equipment to states. I will continue to work hard in Congress to lift up the concerns of our state government, as well as the needs of communities in Wayne County and the 13th Congressional District.”
According to a release by the Governor’s office, executive order (EO-2020-21) directs all Michigan businesses and operations to temporarily suspend in-person operations that are not necessary to sustain or protect life. It also directs Michiganders to stay in their homes unless they’re a part of that critical infrastructure workforce, engaged in an outdoor activity, or performing tasks necessary to the health and safety of themselves or their family.
