WASHINGTON D.C. – On Thursday, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-13) celebrated the passage of community project funding totaling $15,362,725 included in the House’s budget bills. Rep. Tlaib worked for more than a year in partnership with grassroots organizations, nonprofits, and municipalities in her district to secure this funding to respond directly to some of the most pressing needs in the 13th Congressional District.

“I am incredibly pleased to see that the $15,362,725 in Community Project Funding was included in the House budget and I know it will have a profound impact on the Wayne County communities I represent,” Rep. Tlaib said. “These investments support underserved areas and foster economic development, making a real difference in the lives of so many in our community. I am proud to have fought for funding that will make our community healthier, safer, stronger, and even more resilient.”

Rep. Tlaib championed funding for 10 projects that will directly benefit our youth, seniors, and so many more communities in need of this kind of investments. The projects receiving funding are: 

• $2,500,000 for the City of Inkster to build a Senior Wellness Center to help our seasoned residents thrive;
• $2,000,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan to fund improvements to the Fauver-Martin Club in Highland Park that empowers young people;
• $2,000,000 for Urban Neighborhoods Initiative for the Southwest Detroit Creative Connections Collaborative, which will deploy high-speed broadband and build community spaces;
• $2,000,000 for the Enterprise Community Partners to fund the Detroit Energy Efficiency and Home Improvement Program to provide energy efficient home repairs;
• $1,787,725 for the Eastside Community Network to fund the development of The Stoudamire Wellness HUB for eastside Detroit residents;
• $1,675,000 for Wayne County to address flooding along the Ecorse Creek in Dearborn Heights;
• $1,000,000 for ProsperUS Detroit Micro Lending to support entrepreneurship and small business development;
• $1,000,000 for the Ruth Ellis Center to provide safe, affordable, identity-affirming housing for marginalized Black and Brown Detroiters, especially LGBTQ+ youth;
• $850,000 for the Southeast Michigan Community Alliance for a work-based learning program in Wayne and Westland for at-risk in-school youth age 14 or older, including stipends and supportive services; and
• $550,000 for the City of Wayne to fund the rehabilitation of the Goudy Park Amphitheater that serves as a community space for families and events.
