Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib’s Statement on the Passage of the Climate Action Now Act
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-13) released the following statement following the passage of House Bill 9, the Climate Action Now Act. The act will enable our country to take action against climate change and the negative impacts on residents and the planet as a whole. The bill, among other things, keeps the United States in the Paris Agreement and demands a real plan from the Trump administration to reduce pollution and protect our environment:
“Families in the 13th Congressional District are on the frontlines of the impacts of climate change, especially with many corporate polluters in our backyard. Now is not the time for the United States to exit the Paris Agreement. Families have been harmed and many have died due to federal government inaction – President Trump must realize this and work on behalf of the American people to create a plan to curb carbon emissions and safeguard the health of people and our environment. The Climate Action Now Act is a needed step to take bold action against climate change and I look forward to working with my colleagues to protect frontline communities and ensure a just transition to a green economy happens swiftly and is as comprehensive as possible.”
The Climate Action Now Act prohibits any federal funds from being used to take any action to advance the withdrawal of the U.S. from the landmark Paris Agreement. It also calls on the President to develop and make public a plan for how the United States will meet our commitment to reduce carbon emissions and develop world-class green technology that creates good-paying jobs for American workers.
