Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib Tapped to Serve on Powerful Financial Services Committee

WASHINGTON –  On Wednesday, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-13) was tapped to serve on the powerful U.S. House Committee on Financial Services. This committee oversees the banking industry, insurance, housing, and urban development, among other important sectors. The appointment to this committee, chaired by Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), will enable Representative Tlaib to take substantial actions on many issues the constituents of her district have shared with her as their top concerns. Tlaib released the following statement regarding the appointment:

“It is an honor to have the opportunity to serve on the Financial Services Committee under the leadership of Chairwoman Maxine Waters, someone I deeply admire. When I ran to become the Congresswoman for Michigan’s 13th Congressional District, car insurance rates and the lack of home ownership opportunities for residents were at the top of the list of issues people wanted me to work on. I plan to tackle insurance redlining, discriminatory practices by mortgage lenders and financial institutions, and of course take on Wall Street executives to make sure that working families are put first and not harmed in the name of profits and corporate greed.

My constituents and residents across the country deserve representatives that will fight to hold Wall Street accountable and keep big banks from taking advantage of consumers. That’s what I fully intend to do with my fellow colleagues on the committee, and with the guidance of Congresswoman Waters. I’m ready to get to work.”
