Resolution Recognizing the Nakba and Palestinian Refugees' Rights

The resolution commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Nakba and promotes better education and understanding of the tragedy. The resolution also calls on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which provides social services to a large number of the over 7 million Palestinian refugees, and to support the implementation of Palestinian refugees’ rights as enshrined in United Nations General Assembly Resolution 194 and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Health Equity and MENA Community Inclusion Act

This bill aims to ensure that the federal government is specifically considering how the MENA health is impacted in various ways and would provide guidance to HHS to proactively incorporate recognition of “Middle Easterners and North Africans” into their implementation of extant programs that rely upon the definition of “racial and ethnic minority groups.”

Arab American Heritage Month Resolution

This resolution recognizes April as Arab American Heritage Month and celebrates the heritage and culture of Arab Americans in the United States.

To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 4744 Grand River Avenue in Detroit, Michigan, as the "Rosa Louise McCauley Parks Post Office Building"

This bill was signed into law by President Biden and renamed the post office after Mother Rosa Parks, a pioneer in civil rights who was beyond adored in Detroit and the 12th District community.

End Child Poverty Act

A crucial piece of legislation that would create an expansive universal child benefit, replacing the child tax credit and the child provisions in the Earned Income Tax Credit with more generous benefits. The universal child benefit would benefit would provide payments of $393 per child/per month directly to families for each child between the ages of 0 and 18.

BOOST Act

This bill provides relief for low-and moderate-income households by allowing taxpayers a refundable income-based tax credit. A single taxpayer is eligible for up to $3,000 annually, while joint filers/families are eligible for a maximum of $6,000 annually. It also directs the Internal Revenue Service to establish a program for making advance payments of such credit on a monthly basis.

A landmark piece of legislation that would cancel ever-rising household debt for water, power, and broadband services to help U.S. families back on their feet.

Emergency Water is a Human Right Act

This bill creates a grant program, administered by the Department of Health and Human Services, to provide funds to states and Indian tribes to assist low-income households that pay a high proportion of household income for drinking water and wastewater services. Further, any entity receiving financial assistance under this grant program must ensure that no home energy service or public water system service is or remains disconnected or interrupted during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Improving FHA Support for Small-Dollar Mortgages Act

This bill directs the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to report on barriers to making Federal Housing Administration (FHA) single-family mortgage insurance available for mortgages under $70,000. Specifically, HUD must report on policies, practices, and products used by the FHA and actions that will be taken to remove such barriers.

Environmental Justice in Recreation Permitting Act

This legislation would require the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture to complete an interagency report on the effects of special recreation permits on environmental justice communities.

Prevent Auto Insurance Discrimination Act

The Prohibit Auto Insurance Discrimination Act, or PAID Act, would end the use of income, credit score, education levels, and other factors unrelated to driving history and ability, preventing insurance companies from using these details to raise rates for low-income individuals, non-homeowners, and others who otherwise have good driving records.

Justice for All Act

This historic legislation pushes back against decades of conservative court rulings to restore the original intent of our civil rights laws by reaffirming the availability of discrimination claims based on disparate impact.

Restoring Communities Left Behind Act

The legislation would make $5 billion available to local communities through a grant program administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development in order to fund neighborhood revitalization activities including homeowner rehabilitation assistance, weatherization, improved housing accessibility for seniors and people with disabilities, housing counseling, refinancing, property tax relief, and more.

Consumer Protection for Medical Debt Collections Act

This bill prohibits the collection of medical debt for two years and prohibits debt from “medically necessary” procedures from being included on one’s credit report. It provides protections and safeguards to residents who, at no fault of their own, got sick and could not afford the medical care they needed due to our country’s broken health care system.

Cumulative Impacts Act

This bill would create critical protections for environmental justice and frontline communities overburdened by air and water pollution. The Cumulative Impacts Act would require the EPA to analyze the cumulative impacts of pollution in permitting decisions under the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act, and deny permit applications unless the applicant can demonstrate a reasonable certainty of no harm to the community or vulnerable groups.

Restoring Unfairly Impaired Credit & Protecting Consumers Act

This bill provides credit restoration for victims of predatory lending, fraud, and other financial abuse, prohibits the reporting of medical debt, and reduces the length of time that adverse information appears on credit reports from seven to four years.

Restaurant Workers Bill of Rights

This bill, in partnership with worker members of the Restaurant Opportunities Centers (ROC) United, recognizes restaurant workers’ rights to thriving wages, healing, rest, a safe and dignified working environment, universal health care, bodily autonomy, and democracy in their workplace.

Safe Storage Saves Lives Act

The Safe Storage Saves Lives Act would require a firearms seller to provide each purchaser with a compatible secure gun storage or safety device (commonly known as a “gun lock”) for every firearm they buy. It is critical that gun owners have these inexpensive devices for each of their firearms to prevent accidental shootings and deaths.
