Water contaminated by lead service lines can be found in every congressional district in the country.
From rural areas to densely populated cities, lead service lines are widespread and pose serious health risks to all of us, but particularly to children.
This Caucus will pursue every possible avenue to get lead out of our water once and for all. We support efforts to ensure clean, affordable drinking water for every American, and bringing communities together from around the country to unite around clean water as a human right.
Join us in this fight to get lead out of our water and protect the health and future of our children.

Caucus Highlights
- Get The Lead Out Caucus chairs led two critical letters in 2024 urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to strengthen and finalize its Lead and Copper Rule Improvements. The EPA announced its final LCRI rule in October 2024, just weeks after the Caucus sent its second letter, which was signed by 81 members of the House and Senate. The finalized Lead and Copper Rule Improvements require the identification and replacement of lead pipes across the country within 10 years, require more rigorous drinking water testing, and lowers the threshold requiring communities to take action to protect people from lead exposure in water.
- In 2022, Rep. Tlaib hosted a groundbreaking Get The Lead Out tour of lead-impacted communities across Michigan. The tour brought Members of Congress and federal officials together with service providers, organizers, and residents in Detroit, Highland Park, Dearborn Heights, Flint, and Benton Harbor to learn more about the support our communities need to respond to the lead crisis and deliver safe, affordable drinking water for everyone.
